Spending the kids’ inheritance!
“Our holiday to celebrate my husband’s recent retirement begins in Las Vegas, which we managed to drive to safely from Los Angeles (on the right hand-side!) – a real test after the long flight from Sydney. The plan was to drive to San Francisco then fly to Fort Lauderdale to begin our cruise to Southampton, after which we would travel around the coastal areas of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.
“First up was the magnificent Grand Canyon, which we descended into in our helicopter after flying past Hoover Dam and the glittering Lake Mead; a truly wonderful way to appreciate all that the canyon has to offer. We climbed into a riverboat and enjoyed a scenic ride along the Colorado River. In the evening at the Venetian Hotel, we enjoyed a Motown-inspired musical delight courtesy of Human Nature.
“We then continued with our drive to Death Valley, Nevada. Next up was San Francisco, where we visited Alcatraz and enjoyed the very informative audio tour detailing its infamous and notorious prisoners and walked across the Golden Gate Bridge before cruising under it on a sunset catamaran.
“We flew to Fort Lauderdale and embarked on our cruise on the beautiful Celebrity Cruise liner, Silhouette. Along the way we visited Bahamas, Bermuda, Portugal and Southampton.
“After disembarking we stayed a few days in Falmouth and visited the fabulous Minack Theatre carved into the cliffside in Cornwall. The photo is of us enjoying an exhilarating ride on the zip wire over the Bournemouth Pier! (Only seniors in the line).
“We then drove to Windsor in time to see the media madness surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan’s baby boy, Archie.
“We flew business class from London to Singapore which was wonderful; so much more comfortable – thank you Frequent Flyer Points. There was so much to see in Singapore, including Marina Bay Sands, Helix Bridge and the Esplanade. We went to the famous Raffles Hotel where we enjoyed our Singapore Slings and felt very rebellious leaving our peanut shells on the floor as the patrons are encouraged to do.
“We arrived back home in time to celebrate my birthday with our gorgeous daughters, their partners, and of course, our beautiful granddaughter, Livia.”
